The European Union should develop relations with non-EU countries in a coordinated manner and preventatively, not only when a crisis demands it, said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his address at the EUMED9 summit in Valetta on Friday.
Greek sources added that in Malta Mitsotakis highlighted Greece’s policy of ‘active deterrence’ pursued in both its land and maritime borders.
Greece has invested tremendous resources and effort to implement this policy, leading to fewer migration influxes and sending a clear message to human traffickers that Greece is a country that is not easy to get into, he was cited as saying.
Greece will continue to pursue this policy, but it also seeks to cooperate with Turkiye to further reduce migration influxes.
