A 66-year-old man accused of arson was sent to jail after testifying to an examining magistrate on Thursday.
The suspect, an academic who in the past had even taught at the Hellenic Police Academy, has been accused of being responsible for four fires that broke out in the Herona area in Vari, Attica on June 8 and 9.
According to sources, the 66-year-old denied the charges, claiming that at the specific time of the fires he had been at home, as he is a resident of the area.
A warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest on the basis of video evidence collected by the police at the sites where the fires started.
