Romania is the fourth country to assist Greece through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), besides France, Italy, and the Czech Republic, European Commission spokesperson for issues related to crisis management Balazs Ujvari told Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Monday.
Ujvari said that Romania will be sending a group of firefighters for the raging Attica Region fires, while the UCPM’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre is monitoring developments and remains on standby to provide further help.
Greece activated the UCPM mechanism on Sunday afternoon.
According to the latest update, France will send a Super Puma helicopter for water dropping, which is expected to reach Greece on Monday night.
Italy is sending two firefighting aircraft (Canadair type), expected to reach Attica on Tuesday morning.
The Czech Republic is sending 75 firefighters and 25 fire trucks, including among them 9 water trucks, all expected to arrive on Tuesday.
An offer for assistance from Spain and Türkiye is expected to be finalized soon.
