A six-member bipartisan delegation from the US House of Representatives met with Greek Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis in Athens on Thursday and discussed issues of bilateral and international interest.
Gerapetritis briefed the delegation led by Representative Mark Green (R) on the high level of Greek- American relations, which he said are at their highest point ever, and on the basic stances of Greek foreign policy. A large part of the meeting was devoted to Ukraine and the Middle East, while the minister also briefed the Congressmen and Congresswomen on developments in Greek-Turkish relations and the Cyprus issue. In detailing Greece’s role as a reliable partner, he also noted that Greece lies at the meeting point of three continents and provides a factor of stability in the region. In terms of energy, the Greek FM talked about Greece’s efforts to become independent in energy, both at infrastructural and at interconnectivity level with other countries, thus contributing to the energy differentiation and security in Europe.
The delegation included the following US Representatives, besides Green: Republicans Michael Guest, Alex Mooney, and Debbie Lesko, and Democrats Zoe Lofgren and Norma Torres.
Accompanying the members of the delegation was US Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis.
