BRUSSELS (ANA/E. Zarkadoula) — The EU expects from Turkey a peaceful solution to the tension in the eastern Mediterranean, EU spokesperson for Foreign Issues Peter Stano said at a press conference on Monday underlining that Turkey’s actions worry the entire EU.
Additionally, Stano underlined that High Representative Josep Borrel spoke on the phone with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
“The main reason of the phone call was to brief him on the result and the discussions of the EU Foreign Ministers on the EU-Turkey relations and on the conditions in the eastern Mediterranean,” Stano said adding that the Turkish side was briefed publicly and through the message of Gymnich and afterwards by the High Representative himself on the EU’s expectations from Turkey for a peaceful solution to the tension in the eastern Mediterranean.
He was also briefed on how the EU sees the way to de-escalation as well as the measures it is ready to take, and is already taking, against Turkey’s behaviour which, as the ministers have clearly stated, is a source of concern for the entire EU.
