Fifty-seven years from the junta coup and fifty years after the return of democracy to Greece, Greece remembers the dictatorship and honors the resistance fighters, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Sunday, the anniversary of the seven-year dictatorship in 1967.
“Yesterday’s experience feeds the choices of the future. We remember the tyranny of the dictatorship. We honor the resistance fighters. And we provide continuity to the achievements of liberty and parliamentary democracy,” Mitsotakis said.
The Greeks welcome this year’s anniversary with responsibility, maturity, and decisiveness, he added, “protecting democracy from its new enemies, who besiege it with lies and demagoguery. Overcoming the post-junta years’ weaknesses. Walking steadily on the path of Europe and progress.”
