Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou on Monday signed a ministerial decision accepting an expression of interest submitted by the American company Chevron to search for oil and gas in two additional offshore blocks south of Crete.
The expression of interest concerns the granting of the right to hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in the blocks “South of Crete 1” and “South of Crete 2”, off the coast of Greece’s largest island.
The decision was signed following based on the favorable recommendations of the Hellenic Hydrocarbon and Energy Resources Management Company (EDEYEP).
New Ministerial Decisions will follow, which will determine the exact coordinates and the announcement of an international tender.
“The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is consistently implementing its commitments for a Greece that is energy-secure, investment-attractive and geostrategically strong,” the Environment and Energy Ministry said in an announcement.
