The historic high level of Greek-US relations was reaffirmed at Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis’ meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in the context of the USA-Greece Strategic Dialogue which was held on Friday in Washington.
In statements after the meeting, Gerapetritis said that “the US expressed, via the Secretary of State, their gratitude to Greece for the foreign policy of principles that is following concerning the international law, with a strong word and with a strong diplomatic capital which is investing in peace and in the peoples’ prosperity”.
He also noted that all the major regional issues were discussed among them the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East. As he explained, there is significant mobilization in the Middle East, for the hostilities to end something that will lead to a permanent solution.
Finally, Gerapetritis presented to Blinken the new opportunities created for the Cyprus issue after the assumption of duties by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres’ Personal Envoy on Cyprus María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar. “It is an opportunity to promote again the Cyprus issue and to finally reach a sustainable solution in the context of the UN Security Council Resolutions”.
