Greece will “remain in a state of constant vigilance” over developments in the Middle East, Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis told Star TV on Thursday.
“The situation is very unbalanced and we must be prepared for anything,” the minister said in an interview, warning also of increased migration flows and economic repercussions, including the production of oil, and how long the war lasts.
Asked to comment on Greece’s relations with Turkiye, he said, “Turkiye may take a relative turn in its foreign policy – more of a turn toward the West – which has been developing recently following events in the Middle East, and may turn even further, in relative terms.”
Gerapetritis said however that such a possible turn toward the West “would not directly influence Greek-Turkish relations and the rapprochement being worked on.”
He added, “At any rate, it is very important there is consistency in foreign policy. This is something our partners appreciate and it always helps during times of crisis.”
