Turkish President Recep Tayyip in an interview with the Sunday edition of Kathimerini newspaper ahead of his meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday in Ankara said among others that: the problems must be resolved as a package and that everyone must know that it is difficult for an energy platform that does not include Turkey to succeed in the region, especially in the Eastern Mediterranean. He also pointed out that Turkey and Greece share not only the same geography, but also many common elements with a historical dimension. Of course, there are issues on which we disagree, but the number of issues on which we can agree is not small. By speaking openly and courageously about all issues, we can take steps towards a solution.
Referring to the Greek-Turkish relations, Erdogan spoke of both the differences such as the continental shelf and the Turkish-Libyan memorandum, as well as of the marine parks in the Aegean, on the occasion of which Turkey once again raised the issue of sovereignty over the small, uninhabited islands. As the newspaper noted, the Turkish president responded in writing to its questions, which were submitted before the implementation of the decision for the conversion of the Monastery of Chora into a mosque.
