Coast Guard officials detected a series of violations during recent inspections of various types of ships. Out of a total of 660 inspections conducted by July 22, 34 violations were identified, the majority of which pertained to maritime equipment and fire safety, pollution prevention, and ship cargo.
In 28 cases (4.2%), ships were prohibited from departing until the noted issues were addressed. Additionally, 23 fines have already been imposed and administrative control procedures are ongoing.
These inspections are part of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy overall strategy to ensure the safety of passengers and crews in coastal navigation and to protect the marine environment.
