The United States looks forward to “further enhancing relations with the indispensable NATO ally and partner, the government of Greece,” US Ambassador George Tsunis said on Monday during an Economist conference in Athens.
At “The World Ahead 2024: Athens Gala Dinner”, Tsunis referred to the upcoming 5th Greek-US Strategic Dialog in February in Washington and reiterated that Greece is an agent of stability and a reliable partner in the area. In addition, it is a pillar of stability in Southeastern Europe and is becoming an energy and transportation hub in the region as well.
The American ambassador also noted that he had recently traveled to Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria to meet with leaders in the government and the business sector and explore how Greece could collaborate with its neighbors to increase regional connectivity.
Among other topics, Tsunis referred to bilateral economic relations, American investments in Greece (including DFC’s to promote Onex’s revival of the Elefsina Shipyards), and the USAID memorandum of collaboration signed with Greece in November 2023 to enhance energy security and collaboration in the Western Balkans. In addition, he said that “Greece is a global leader in renewable energy sources.” At the same time, he also referred to Greece’s assumption of the international conference “Our Ocean Conference”, which he said highlighted Greece’s role as a leading power in facing global challenges.
