Destroyer “Velos” will be transferred to the Salamis Naval Base to fully repair the damage caused by the storm last November, according to sources from the Ministry of National Defence.
Same sources indicate that the necessary maintenance will take several months to complete. Following this, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias intend for the ship to return to Thessaloniki to serve as a floating, living museum of the Hellenic Navy. Additionally, its anchoring location is being considered to ensure public access.
