The ENGAGE information program used by the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection forces will be upgraded after a contract worth 10 million euros was signed by Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias on Thursday.
The act is in the framework of implementing the AEGIS program.
With the upgrade, another 40 new items and improvements to the current system will be added, and it will include the acquisition of a virtual reality training program for firefighters, surveillance cameras, and the acquisition of 500 computers and 1,000 screens.
Under the current ENGAGE version, the Fire Department has real-time information on progress of natural disasters (e.g. fires), the unfolding of weather conditions in order to dispatch help by land or air, and access to a large database including the history of areas in previous fires. The upgrade will also offer citizens the option of being informed about fires in real time, through an application.
The European Investment Bank has contributed to its funding, which under AEGIS includes the purchase of firefighting means and aircraft and the setting up of operations centers.
According to Fire Department officials at the signing event, ENGAGE has been highly valuable in operations.
