Europe can’t pretend that Turkey is acting in an acceptable way in the region, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said in an interview with Bloomberg on Friday and urged the European Union to take measures to curb Ankara’s “illegal and provocative policy”.
“Europe should place limits on Turkey’s behaviour as it is contrary to everything the EU represents,” underlined Dendias, adding that “if there is no reaction then Turkey will be left with the impression that it can continue the same behaviour without any limits”.
Referring to the arms embargo Greece that has asked its European partners to impose, especially Germany, Dendias said that “Germany, as the largest EU country and economy, has the control and balance mechanisms to stop the export of weapons to countries that are going to turn them against two EU member-states.”
