General Atomics Europe GmbH is investing in the development of a new site in Nordholz, located in the Cuxhaven district of Lower Saxony. Through this investment, the company is expanding its capabilities in the maintenance and sustainment of aviation systems while further strengthening its long-standing partnership with the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr).

The acquisition of an approximately 40,000-square-meter property with direct airport access, located adjacent to the Nordholz Naval Air Base, marks an important milestone in the implementation of the project.

The facility will be operated by General Atomics AeroTec Systems GmbH (GA-ATS), working in close cooperation with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI).

A Long-Standing Partnership with the German Armed Forces

For more than 30 years, the General Atomics Europe Group has maintained operations in Germany through its portfolio of companies. Today, General Atomics AeroTec Systems GmbH (GA-ATS) is an established industrial partner of the German Armed Forces in the field of military aviation.

GA-ATS is the manufacturer and system support provider for the Do228 aircraft. In addition to developing and producing the new Do228 NXT, the company provides maintenance, service, and modernization support for the platform. GA-ATS is also a DEMAR 145-certified maintenance organization responsible for base maintenance of the German Army and German Navy NH90 helicopter fleets.

The new Nordholz facility complements GA-ATS’ existing capabilities with additional maintenance and sustainment capacity. Its purpose is to further expand technical support for German Armed Forces aviation systems by providing the infrastructure required for future growth. This also includes establishing the prerequisites to technically support the German Navy’s MQ-9B SeaGuardian unmanned aircraft system in the future.

“With our investment in Nordholz, we are taking the next step in expanding our long-standing partnership with the German Armed Forces. The new site complements our existing capabilities in Germany and provides the foundation to continue supporting the Bundeswehr with high-quality maintenance and sustainment services well into the future.” – Harald Robl, CEO, General Atomics Europe GmbH

The Nordholz investment is part of General Atomics Europe’s long-term growth strategy. The new site complements the company’s existing capabilities and creates additional capacity to support aviation systems operated by the German Armed Forces.
