Fires were reported on Monday afternoon in Loutraki, Corinth and the village of Kapareli in Viotia.
The fire brigade said a fire has started due to unknown causes in a forest in Loutraki’s Kallithea location, with a strong fire fighting force deployed to put out the flames as strong winds were blowing in the area.
Shortly after, a message sent from the emergency number 112 ordered the evacuation of the areas Kallithea, Pefkia and Irene in Corinth as a precaution. Residents have been instructed to head toward the coastal city of Loutraki.
The fire in Kapareli started at the entrance to the village but was not threatening homes, with the wind blowing it toward the surrounding forest. Strong fire-fighting forces were again deployed because strong winds in the area, assisted by municipality water trucks and earth-moving machinery.
