The United States is opposed to the partition of Cyprus promoted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a resolution to the Cyprus issue, the Department of State said on Friday.
Responding to a question by Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) during a briefing, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said, “The Republic of Cyprus is an important partner in our efforts to promote regional stability, security, and prosperity. The United States remains steadfast in its support for Cypriot-led, UN-facilitated efforts to reunify the island as a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality to benefit all Cypriots, as outlined in relevant UN Security Council resolutions.”
