“The European borders in Evros are protected and are secure and will continue to be protected and secure,” stated European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas on Friday, after accompanying a Greek police patrol boat as it patrolled the border at the Evros River delta, in the presence of FRONTEX representatives.
“I conclude my two-day presence in Thrace and Evros with my visit here to the Evros Delta to prove the self evident: That Europe will continue to support and help the Hellenic Republic to defend and protect its external borders. Greece’s borders are Europe’s borders. This was an idea, a goal and today it is a tangible reality,” underlined Schinas.
Earlier on Friday, Schinas visited the joint operations centre of the Hellenic Police, EUROPOL and Frontex, where he was briefed on the situation along the borders. He noted that the operations centre was fully equipped and that the European borders are secure and will remain secure.
