The EU needs to speak with a single voice on such a significant issue for regional and European security as developments in the Middle East, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated at the extraordinary European Council teleconference on the Middle East on Tuesday evening.
The need to respond in unity is greater now, sources quoted Mitsotakis as saying. The prime minister also reiterated Israel’s right to self-defense, and the need to protect civilians, while International Law should be observed.
EU security services must collaborate, Mitsotakis said, expressing Greece’s concern for repercussions of the crisis’ expansion the region. He also said he would be visiting the area shortly and that he had been in touch with Egypt’s president. On the latter, he said that recent developments make the strategic collaboration of EU-Egypt more imperative than ever.
