A 56-year-old border guard who was injured – on Saturday afternoon- by fire from the Turkish side while on patrol in a remote area of Soufli, is being treated in a stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Didymoteicho General Hospital.
According to information provided to Athens-Macedoninan News Agency by the head of the 4th health district Dimitris Tsalikakis, the injured person – who suffered injuries in the abdomen – was initially taken by his colleagues to the Soufli Health Center where he was given first aid and then he was transferred to Didymoteicho General Hospital where he underwent surgery.
According to the Greek Police, the incident, which is being investigated by the Greek authorities, occurred on Saturday afternoon at approximately 6:30 p.m. in a remote area of Soufli Evros, where Greek border guards patrolling the area and during an operation to prevent the illegal entry of migrants from Turkey into Greece they were shot by unknown persons from the Turkish side.
