The first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which will test the operation of the Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) terminal in Alexandroupolis, was delivered to the northeastern Greek city on Friday by Greece’s public gas corporation DEPA Commercial.
DEPA said that its participation in the shareholders who manage FSRU sped up the implementation of this significant energy project, while it is now proceeding as a supplier by receiving the first chartered LNG shipment. The project will open new prospects for DEPA Commercial in the Balkans and Southeastern Europe, it added.
“We are particularly proud, especialy as a Greek company, as suppliers who today delivered the commissioned shipment to FSRU at Alexandroupolis,” CEO Constantinos Xifaras said. He added that it was proof “of our belief that this specific energy infrastruture is a necessary section of the energy secuirty network in Southeast Europe, by choosing Alexanroupolis’ FSRU as suppliers as well, for the receipt of the company’s contracted shipments.”
