A forest fire broke out on Wednesday in the suburban district of Glyka Nera in Attica, which is located near the northeastern flank of Mount Hymettus.
According to the fire department, the fire started at about 14:20 on Wednesday, on the north flank of the mountain and had been moving away from the houses toward a part of the forest with dense tree growth.
A force of 100 firefighters with 25 vehicles and six teams on foot were mobilised to battle the flames, assisted by nine firefighting airplanes and seven helicopters, of which one was being used for coordination. These were being assisted by volunteers with volunteer vehicles, local authority water trucks, while police are also on the scene.
People in the area have been warned to be on standby and follow the instructions of the authorities.
